Step 2: Register your property
HAVE YOU REGISTERED YOUR RENTAL PROPERTY WITH THE CITY OF CLEVELAND?

Please register your property with the Department of Building and Housing via the City's Citizen Access Portal.
Step 3: Assess Your Property
Have you hired a Lead Risk Assessor to assess your property?

Hire a certified Lead Risk Assessor to obtain a Lead Risk Assessment. If no lead hazards are identified, you can skip to step 6 and automatically apply for a two-year certification at this point.
Step 4: Fix Your Property
Have you contacted a Certified Contractor?
Keep moving forward!
Hire a certified contractor to complete interim controls or lead abatement measures to fix the lead hazards identified in the risk assessment.
Once remediation has been completed on your property, you are ready to move forward!
Step 5: Clean & Get Clearance

Have you cleaned your property prior to your inspection?

Cleaning your property before scheduling a lead clearance examination greatly improves your chance of passing your clearance.
You are strongly encouraged to clean your property using the HUD cycle cleaning method 24 hours prior to your clearance examination.
Step 5: Get lead clearance

Please schedule a Lead Clearance Examination with the initial Lead Risk Assessor that assessed your property in Step 3.
Legally, your Clearance Examiner cannot be related to or the same as your Certified Contractor.
Once you've scheduled your examination, you are ready to move forward!
Step 6: Apply for Certification
Did you pass your lead certification examination?
Congratulations! You can now submit your application.
Please submit your lead safe clearance passing to the City of Cleveland using the link below.
You should review what areas of your property failed, and begin the process again.
